discussing the question
“How can we ensure trust in AI for future mobility and logistics?”
INTERACTIVE VIDEO-CONFERENCE
Sindelfingen/Paris, January 27, 2022. AKKA Technologies, European leader in engineering consultancy and R&D services, in collaboration with the German-French Academy for the Industry of the Future (GFA) – founded by the France’s Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT) and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) – hold the second German-French Industry of the Future Workshop. The workshop, which aims to expand German-French cooperation in the high-tech sector, featured an interactive format in which scientists and industry experts worked on finding interdisciplinary solutions to this year’s topic, “Trust in Artificial Intelligence for the Mobility of the Future and Logistics.”
Trust in artificial intelligence (AI) is integral to technological progress. If AI systems are to be used and benefit from their full innovation potential, high-quality technologies need to be developed and used in such a way that creates trust from the very beginning. This means not only compiling ethical guidelines, but also involving experts in the discussion on trustworthy artificial intelligence from a technological point of view.

With the second German-French Industry of the Future Workshop, AKKA and the GFA are providing a platform to develop further expertise in trustworthy AI in both Germany and France, thereby advancing research and training skills in top technology topics in both countries.
At the workshop on January 26th, 2022, the key topics of this high-tech field and its applications in autonomous driving, driver assistance systems and supply chains were discussed by experts, including Prof. Dr. Stefan Minner, Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the Technical University of Munich, Prof. Dr. Frank Koester, Founding Director, of Institute for AI Safety & Security, German Aerospace Center (DLR), Romaric Redon, Head Advisor Artificial Intelligence at Airbus, Matthieu Worm, Senior Principal Key Expert Simulation & Digital Twin at Siemens, Prof. Dr. Caroline Cao, Chairholder of the Franco-Australian Chair for Industry of the Future at IMT Atlantique and Dr. Björn Butting, Vice President IT Digital Services at AKKA Technologies.
“Trustworthy AI is becoming an increasingly important topic throughout the mobility sector. As a result, cooperation between research institutions and industrial partners is of enormous strategic relevance when it comes to supporting knowledge transfer from fundamental research to industrial application,” emphasizes Dr. Björn Butting, Vice President Digital Validation & Products, AKKA BU Germany, adding: “AKKA is already working on trustworthy AI in multiple industrial and research projects, such as researching synthetic data for crash simulation and delivering ADAS validations of AI systems in automated driving systems. The need for expertise is clearly increasing.”
“The cooperation with our strategic partner AKKA Technologies is a huge bonus for the German-French Academy for the Industry of the Future. This is the second time that we have seen brilliant minds from both Germany and France exchange ideas at our joint Industry of the Future Workshop, as well as use this forum to discuss challenges and lay the foundations for innovative solutions. We were once again able to successfully bring together different points of view on a highly topical issue, thereby paving the way for very specific applications for trustworthy AI in production & manufacturing, mobility & logistics, and the intelligent city of the future,” says Cosima Stocker, Head of Industry Relations (TUM) at the German-French Academy for the Industry of the Future.
The German-French Academy for the Industry of the Future is a strategic instrument for promoting close cooperation between leading European research institutions and industrial companies. It was founded by the France’s Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT) and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany. Focusing on joint research, education and innovation, the role of the Academy is to meet the challenges presented by the increasing digitalization of industrial processes.
The format will be pursued further in a European context in the future. Interested experts from science and industry are very welcome to take part.
